Purpose of This Policy

This Editorial Policy governs all content published by The Golden Chance. It exists to ensure that our reporting on Canada's gambling industry meets consistent standards of accuracy, fairness, and independence. Every member of the Editorial Desk is expected to understand and follow these standards without exception.

Editorial Independence

The Golden Chance operates independently of gambling operators, affiliate networks, industry associations, and government bodies. No external party has the authority to review, approve, delay, or suppress our editorial content prior to publication. Our coverage decisions are made solely by the Editorial Desk based on journalistic merit, public interest, and relevance to Canadian readers.

This independence extends to our business relationships. Advertising, if accepted, is clearly separated from editorial content. No advertiser is granted influence over story selection, framing, or conclusions. If a potential conflict of interest arises—however remote—it is disclosed to readers within the relevant article.

Fact-Checking Process

Every article published on The Golden Chance undergoes a fact-checking process before publication. This process includes the following steps:

  • Primary verification: All factual claims are verified against primary sources, including official government publications, regulatory filings, provincial gaming authority announcements, and court documents where applicable.
  • Secondary review: A second member of the Editorial Desk reviews the article for factual accuracy, logical consistency, and adherence to this policy before publication.
  • Source documentation: Writers are required to maintain records of their sources for a minimum of twelve months following publication, enabling prompt verification if questions arise.
  • Numerical accuracy: Statistics, financial figures, and dates are independently confirmed against their original source before inclusion in any article.

Sourcing Standards

We hold ourselves to rigorous sourcing standards designed to ensure the reliability of our reporting:

  • Official and regulatory sources are preferred. These include provincial gaming commissions, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Loto-Québec, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Canada Revenue Agency, and equivalent bodies in other provinces and territories.
  • Named sources are preferred over anonymous ones. When anonymity is granted, it is because identifying the source would put them at professional or personal risk, and the information they provide is of significant public interest.
  • Industry press releases are clearly attributed and are not presented as independently verified reporting unless their claims have been confirmed through separate channels.
  • Academic and research sources are cited with full attribution, including the institution, publication, and date of the study.

We do not publish rumours, speculation, or unverified claims as fact. When reporting on developing stories where full verification is not yet possible, we clearly indicate the provisional nature of the information.

No Conflicts of Interest

Members of the Editorial Desk are prohibited from holding financial interests in gambling operators, affiliates, or companies whose activities they may cover. This includes direct share ownership, affiliate agreements, consulting contracts, and paid advisory roles. Any pre-existing interest must be disclosed to the editor and resolved before the individual participates in related coverage.

Sponsored Content Policy

The Golden Chance does not currently publish sponsored content. Should sponsored content ever be accepted in the future, the following safeguards will apply:

  • Sponsored content will be clearly and prominently labelled with the words "Sponsored" or "Paid Content" at the top of the page.
  • It will be visually distinguished from editorial content through design elements such as background colour or border treatment.
  • The sponsoring party will be identified by name.
  • Sponsored content will never be written by the Editorial Desk. It will be produced by or on behalf of the sponsor and will not carry the editorial team's byline.
  • The existence of any sponsored content arrangement will have no bearing on the editorial team's independent coverage decisions.

Corrections and Accountability

We are committed to correcting errors promptly and transparently. Our full corrections procedure is detailed in our Corrections Policy. In brief: when a factual error is identified—whether by our team or by a reader—it is investigated, and if confirmed, a correction is appended to the article with a clear note explaining what was changed and when. We do not silently alter published content.

Commitment to Readers

This policy is a living document. We review it periodically and update it as our practices evolve. Readers who have questions about our editorial standards or who wish to report a potential violation of this policy are encouraged to contact us at editorial@thegoldenchance.top.
